you never told me—
the same story twice
the same way no matter
what people expected

the history of hoodoo voodoo—
you didn’t tell those linear stories
but rather events that were laid
out right then in the moment

your hoodoo voodoo stories—
about time freezing over and
zeroing in on the moment
catching a brand new story

your stories just happened—
they never repeated themselves
nor were they told the same way like
the usual fairy tale stories get told

your impromptu stories—
had extemporaneous, spontaneous
lives of their own, long lifetimes
like proust’s involuntary memory

you were on your own then—
telling all your hoodoo voodoo
stories, each with a new lesson plan
how to live with the changes
